Yesterday we went to Hambye, where a delightful quilt shop can be found. After months of making scrap quilts, I bought some fabrics which appealed to me, but with which I hadn’t the foggiest notion what I would make. Then we explored a new patisserie which has just opened and chose some gorgeous samples to take to the Mill, where our friend S has just returned from a month in Madeira, Lots to talk about while we were guzzling.
After lunch today we went for a walk. Having gone a bit too far for my old bones, Jock went back for the car while I walked on a bit further. There was a lady gardening near her gate, so I stopped to chat and admire the work. The accent wasn’t quite French, so I asked
if she was English. We haven’t deliberately sought anglophones during are 28 years in France, but it’s always good to fine a congenial compatriot. Now I have a new friend!
Home again, and I set to with paper and ruler to plan the quilt project – an enjoyable but elastic process!
I also bought the tiniest scrap of pansy fabric with which to replace my lost needle case
It still needs a bit of hand quilting to finish it off, which I will do while watching tv this evening.
Last year’s geraniums are still flowering, as are these osteospermums which have produced flowers nonstop since they were planted about seven years ago.
All in all, a very happy weekend.
A lovely happy weekend indeed and it’s so wonderful to make new friends! Thank you for sharing your sunshine, Viv! 🙂

What a great weekend! I have a large box of scraps, remnants, off-cuts and oddments in my basement, patiently waiting since I moved in here ten years ago to become something patchwork and/or quilted. One day …

Start now, and you’ll soon find that stocks of scraps are never-ending!

I’ve also been helping my mother de-clutter – she has materials that must be pre-1939! Not to mention old dress patterns, iron-on embroidery patterns etc.!

A quilt shop, a cake shop and a chat. Sounds like the perfect day to me!

sounds like a wonderful day. I am resisting visiting the fabric shops here for now as our monies have to be relegated to items such as a fridge and a bed! Once our things arrive from Canada and my creative space is set up, then I’ll be there like a dirty shirt picking out quilting fabric. I can hardly wait.

I never heard that expression before “there like a dirty shirt” That cracked me up!

It sounds wonderful, and you never need to justify buying fabric with an actual project in mind – you just call it ‘stash-building’ and pretend that you were short of choice in whatever it is you ended up buying! Like the look of where your designs are going, and I hope we’ll see results and some stage.
