A Forest of Flies
Words hang heavy while creatures swarm
and buzz and hum around the room,
storm my citadel; jump
with passion onto my skin; thrive
on my flapping, swatting, clapping;
sneer at my efforts to remove them.
Without an ounce of magic
I’ll never be free of them.
Today’s Wordle words stung me! Living surrounded by rural beauty has its disadvantages. The hot weather has brought a plague of flies. Do go and see what others have done with these pesky words here.
I really LIKE this–better, I think, than what I came up with…

Wonderful imagery that left me with the heebie-jeebies. Well done!

I know the feeling. I’m sitting here with a fly swat right now!

They’re driving us round the bend at the moment.

Mosquitoes here, Viv. I love the conciseness of this. The words were difficult this week, therefore, I didn’t use them all.

This is so atmospheric, Viv…At first I thought I was really in the forest. We’re dealing with wasps and bees right now.

We so look forward to summer and its promised freedoms, too often forgetting that those pesky insects do the same…love how you used the words to speak of your own honest feelings…

O, dear, Viv! Try to accept them, to accept their right to exist in such hot weather, ‘be fair – share the air’ and…you notice then: they will stop to bother you. Hugs and smiles.

They annoyed Duncan yesterday as the ‘Thrips’ or ‘Thunder bugs’ messed up his re painting of the bathroom. sally

I don’t like them either…I try to remember everything has a purpose…what is the purpose of flies?

Jock tells me they are there to consume dead bodies. You could have fooled me: they like my body and I am not dead yet.

“thrive on my flapping” – “sneer at my efforts”. yes explained as attack of winged creatures and yet seems to buzz with something larger 🙂

I can’t say that I’m very fond of those creatures that swarm and buzz and hum either!

Flies – metaphorical or real – certainly invade every cranny of our citadels..i like how your piece seems concise as if written under attack..keep those words safe! have you tried Citronella?

Magic in a spray can, I guess! Then the words can come floating by.

Not me. I refuse to spray noxious chemicals which will kill good insects (and me) as well as annoying ones.
