Beach beckons: lunch by the sea
with good friends today, though the weather is surly, decidedly unpromising.
Looking back to last week’s 6-w-S there has been negative progress on the scrappy quilt project. I added the border and assembled the backing, also from scraps. I tried to make the quilt sandwich but it didn’t work. The corners cockled up and it looked awful, so I laboriously unpicked the border to have a re-think. I do miss my big table, and can no longer work on the floor. I think I have found a solution which requires a DIY shop for some pipe lagging, of which more anon.
The magnolia tree next door has made progress, despite frost this week, so there’s something good in the offing.
I hope your lunch was lovely!

Can’t you work on your dining room table?

It’s too small! But Jock has bought the pipe insulation, and stuck two together with a pipe down the middle. Just waiting for glue to set and I’ll be able to get back to work.

No it’s not wide enough.

Frost in late Feb seems odd for you.hope that magnolia tree crawled under a blanket just like you must on frosty nights.

Lunch by the sea as long as it’s indoors sounds wonderful to me. It’s been years… I need to go again. Does the soul good. Spring is wanting to come here too but it’s fickle. I’m curious to see how you solve your table problem. Mine is too small and the sandwich came out a bit wonky. Floor is out of the question so this could be an instructional post for us all. We are dry today but more rain tomorrow. Mostly dry all week, finally.

We didn’t manage to get the pipe insulation today, so the quilt has been put back on hold. It was low tide when we arrived at the restaurant, but still a lovely spectacle.

I’m envious. 🙂

I hope the restaurant has a large window so you can be cosy inside but still look at the sea. Bon appetit!

Lunch by the sea sounds good – even if the weather is dull, the views should be dramatic.

Spring, here, remains a distant dream, almost an impossibility. I long for any green that isn’t evergreen. Give me some leaves, Lord.

I haven’t seen any magnolia trees ready to bloom yet. You’re ahead of us. Enjoy lunch!

Thanks Misk, although we’re going to get awfully wet because the restaurant is half way along the Digue (the promenade), equidistant from car parks, and it’s now pouring and blowing a gale. The sea will be interesting, if the tide’s in.

The lagging trick works so long as you get the wide stuff, and so do ‘pool noodles’ if you have them there? About 4″ diameter 6 ft long dense foam cylinders intended as flotation aids in the swimming pool. Hope it works for you!

Thanks, Kate. I’ve found your pool noodles online, and they are the right length for me. A trip to the sports shop on the way home from lunch may solve my quilt sandwich problem..

Surly sounds about right, Viv 🙂 We had a very invigorating walk up at Roker yesterday, and passed a very promising fish restaurant. I’d slipped over in the mud so wasn’t suitably attired 🙂 Enjoy your day!

Is that going to be a muddy Monday walk?

Not for a week or two 🙂 I still have a little sunshine to share (though maybe not this coming Monday, now I come to think of it 😦 )
