What a gift it is to be able to do such gorgeous work! And what a gift that Celi received! One can just bow in awe. There must be so much practise behind and years of erxperience… I always thought that this are old and forgotten crafts and arts from long ago, shown just at museums. Did Jock learn that as a profession or is it “just” a hobby? – Kudos.

Holy smokes Viv that’s stunning. Jock is a keeper. 🙂 I want to try to paint the duke at some point and have already “borrowed” a photo or two from Celi. He really is an amazing creature, isn’t he?

Viv, If I had one tenth of Jock’s talent, and in only my little finger, then I would feel gifted. This is amazing!

Fantastic! Well reminded, Viv. It had gone out of my head. Does he do the design as well as the needlework? That really is amazing. Off to see some more.

He starts with a) an idea then b) we search for a suitable photograph which I enlarge as much as possible and then print . He traces an outline drawing which he copies onto fabric. From then on he works from the photograph for colours and shading. H looks at the picture sometimes for weeks before putting needle to work.

How absolutely splendid, wow, I know you have heard this and said this before but that jock is a multi talented fellow and a true artist.. Now i know you said that maybe you would like to send it to me , but ONLY if that is ok with the artist, that is a tremendous amount of work right there, But just imagine how that would look on the wall of the coupe, which already has the beginnings of a peacock theme. We have even found a peacock swing seat for the verandah! And one wall is going to be a peacock blue. imagine! But live with it for a while yet, don’t even think of giving it away until you are ready.. I know you said you would but that does not mean you should. Love it! have a fab day.. we have had a few thawed days, we got outside and worked like crazy and now the weather is turning back to nasty cold (below freezing in the nights ) for another week, Sigh.. Soon though.. spring will be soon.. take care,, love to jock and tell him i am deeply impressed..c

Jock does want to send it to you – we have no walls left to hang new embroideries and quilts on, and it would be a shame to hide it in a cupboard. It will be easiest to send it un-backed for you to get it framed to your choice. I hope that’s OK with you.

    Viv…
Thank you for sharing this…it looks to be impeccably stitched, the colors awesome…wonderful work to share with your readers. Jock must have the patience of a saint and eye’s of an eagle…not to forget the nimble fingers of an artist to have done this.
    Peace

  13. Our National Bird! Everyone in India is either embroidering or painting or drawing peacocks. We have peacock motifs on dresses, jewels, cutlery..and on a whole bunch of other stuff.

Jock must have a whole lot of patience and talent to have done that.

  14. Now, that surprised me! Impossible for me to comment on the stitching, but design-wise, AB-FAB 🙂
