for dVerse poets pub Haibun Monday – the prompt asks us to use “moon”
Songs about the moon are legion – so easy for a poet to find a rhyme – but usually corny in the extreme. Couple moonlight with starlight and the corn multiplies by a factor of ten. But then, I am old, and have heard them all. For the young and in love, it’s all new and romantic, the moon surrounded by convenient, concealing darkness.
The moon’s shadow
gives camouflage to lovers
for a canoodle
…but for the young it’s all new 🙂

I love the idea of corn multiplied! This caused me to laugh…it’s so true…corny can get cornier! 🙂

With such a cracking word as ‘canoodle’ – guaranteed to bring a smile – the corn factor is nullified 🙂

Your haiku put a moon-size grin on my face.
Love the tone of the speaker. You can almost see her shaking her head, thinking, Young heart, one of these days you won’t need moonlight (or dark) for canoodling.

So true. And I too love the word canoodle.

Just enjoyed this so much…and totally relate to this. I too get a bit weary of the purple prose that so often surrounds love poetry.

canoodle….definitely not a North American English word! We have spooning which is similar!

Been a while since I canoodled in the moonlight. I need to re-write my to do list! Thanks, Viv.

I love love love the sound bump and broad smile that the proximity of “moon” and “canoodle” bring here. 😉

Ha.. yes it’s easy to write a poem dripping with honey… but if you’re young and in love it’s all unique…I think rhyming moon and baboon can be good though… 🙂

Fun.
There’s time you can oodle
Before an oo toodle?
Then lit by the moon
You may want to spoon!

I guess everyone has to live through their ‘moon’ and ‘stars’ phase. And no harm in that! Smiles.

True – when I was starting out in poetry somebody advised me to never use the words ‘moon’, ‘love’, ‘heart’ and ‘soul’ – and certainly not all together in one poem! Too sentimental by far!
