Catastrophe – freezer full of Christmas meltdown

Our 14-month-old very expensive Bosch freezer failed on Thursday night.  The shop in the village where we bought it responded at once by lending us a chest freezer and by dealing with Bosch about the guarantee – the benefit of dealing with local businesses. The electronics will be replaced, as soon as the parts arrive – soon, I hope.

A mammoth thawed shepherd’s pie was hastily put in the oven for tonight and  cooked dishes were given to friends to eat today.  Berries are being turned into jelly as I write and tomorrow some rescuable meat will be cooked and re-frozen.

We discovered we didn’t have freezer contents insurance – isn’t it always the way that whatever claim you try to make there’s always a caveat.

I doubt that we will have much confidence in the repaired monster.

    Bosch! 😦
It even sounds like a curse word if you say it in an angry voice – which I’m sure you did. Well done for managing this domestic disaster as well as you did.

I’m so sorry Viv, anytime of year would be bad but during the holidays is the worst. Bright side Shepherd’s Pie! YUM!

  3. Dear me that does sound like the worst thing that can happen just before the holiday. I just had to replace a refrigerator and everything that has electronics or moving parts has acted up for months. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this now but glad the shop reacted in such a thoughtful way. We wouldn’t have had that kind of service. Contents insurance is not something I’ve heard of but will look into. Standing and cooking all day is not fun, unless you’ve planned it. I was looking into a Bernina as they are the only machine not made in China now. The Viking I bought 2 years ago for and outrageous amount of money, (broken brain day) is a pile of junk and I have let them know every time I take it in. It sits on the floor while I use the old one from 15 years ago. Then the old one gave me a fit in the middle of a project that needs to go in the mail. I just want things to work as they should. At least till after the holiday. 😦 Have a good rest now.

    • The Bernina is usually very well behaved, and I’ve nursed it back to working – though it will need a visit to my machine guru in town very soon.

I can’t normally stand for longer than ten minutes, but somehow I’ve managed all I had to do though according to plan, I should have been icing the Christmas cakes. Tomorrow will do.

Exactly what you don’t need with family coming, Viv! I have yet to start the shopping and preparations but it’ll just be us and Dad. 🙂

What a disaster, particularly at this time of year. These things never happen when it’s frozen or snowy so you could just transfer the contents outside to keep…
