Octpowrimo 30 wants us to write using all the senses. I try to do that all the time, and a recent poem covers that prompt completely, so I must think of something new. … I’ve been looking for an excuse to write a Troiku, a form invented by Chevrefeuille. Chevrefeuille is French for Honeysuckle, so this is in her honour

Upwards in a spiral
around a twiggy wigwam
grow the runner beans
Upwards in a spiral
around a handy hawthorn
honeysuckle glows
Around a handy hawthorn
it’s best to beware
long destructive spines
Honeysuckle glows
amid the darkling bushes
scented lure for bees.

Some great alliterations there, enhanced of course by the repetition – an intriguing form! I had a honeysuckle in the garden of my first house, still am haunted by that scent. Well done on completing OctPoWriMo – you must be exhausted!

I didn’t know that honeysuckles produce beans. But I do love those beautiful and fragrant flowers. A mini wonder for the senses, Viv.

They don’t! Runner beans grow in much the same way as honeysuckle though,.

I enjoyed the troiku form. Will have to try it. Poem really gave me the idea of the essence of honeysuckle.

Honeysuckle seems so distant now… but it’s the flower of summer nights for me… it’s what I always wish for…

I like the contrast of the upward growth of the honeysuckle, but the warning too.

and I love the beans that grew on it. Nowhere here to grow veggies, except in pots.
