Refusal to consider
the moment of my going ─
too close for comfort
better not to waste time fretting ─
enjoy every precious second
Probably too simplistic an interpretation of Gayle’s excellent prompt, to write a Japanese death poem, but my words are from the heart.

I like how you took the theme of the death poem and turned it on its head to become a piece about enjoying life. Quite nice!

Much wisdom in this, I think, for any age! Nice last words indeed!

I like the first two lines. They are so honest, they hit me in the gut. I don’t like looking at it either.

Nice to have an ‘up’ attitude…take advantage of every day of living. The joy is here to find.

I fully agree with that attitude! May be a little too direct for traditional Japanese jisei, but it’s heartfelt!

Sometimes it’s not morbid or wasteful..perhaps just puts things in perspective.. Sometimes..to think about mortality.

Thanks. You are very young? When it is imminent, you may think differently!

Not quite 🙂 hope that didn’t sound all wrong..I do appreciate your sentiment in the poem… It has been on my mind recently though.

The moments of living are really too valuable to waste pondering about death – so valid

Excellent! Every moment truly is precious – don’t fret – good advice. My husband turned 55 today. I turn 64 in November. my how the time flies when one is enjoying those precious moments.

Well said. It does seem fatalistic to be thinking about death when there is so much living to do.

I feel exactly the same way! Still so much to do!

Here here, Viv. I have no wish to spend precious time contemplating my end. >

I get it, Viv. No, certainly the idea is not to fret but maybe to celebrate our lives…just not too soon. Thanks for joining us in the prompt today.

Love this! My mortality is still hopefully a fair way off consideration, but the last couple of years have certainly brought home the immediacy and speed of the ageing process. Some of the effects are not always distasteful, I find it interesting how wrinkles add resemblance! https://talltalesfromchiconia.wordpress.com/2013/09/25/ageing
