Lament for lost loves

Debilitating depression
over disappearing dexterity  –
erstwhile talent down the drain.

Those tasks I used to do with ease
like thread a needle, pin a seam:
disaster, all  gone sour on me.

Diminishing dexterity
makes discords in the music:
piano given away.

Clarinet clearly past its best,
ex tuneful voice can’t hold a note,
distressing listener and singer.

Driving now denied me
typing ineptitude replaced skill
love of reading thwarted by fuzzy type

Old, I am,
hoary, hairy and past it.
Time to go.   Miz Quickly wants us to turn inward and dwell on negativity.  With apologies for the surfeit of alliteration.

No, no, I can’t allow it, not while you’re still giving us such pleasure, encouragement, friendship and enjoyment. I feel with you; my voice is gone too, I can no longer kneel to weed my garden, open bottles or jars, walk far or stand for long. I can still use my keyboard and my needle – and my mind, although my memory is full of moth holes…

Oh, dear, yes, we do all have days like that… a bit of a tricky prompt that one, but sometimes it does one good to let it all hang out!

  7. You’ve brought that inner-dialogue so powerfully, Viv. I echo, Misky’s sentiment. ♥

Oh my, this is a sad one…. – but I can understand you so well. Where or what is the sense when most things won’t succeed anymore? Hope your mind is brightening soon. There will be better days. Trust.

Sometimes we just need to whine a bit. Or should I say “wine” a bit 😉

Aw gee, Viv. Not time to go, look at what you’ve written here, with more to come, I’m sure.

  11. Love the poem; not a fan of the prompt. I don’t like focusing on the negative, but I suppose sometimes it’s necessary. Peace, Linda

Though these things can be true, it is too too dismal, for there is sunshine and not merely just darkness.

  13. Well done on the negative focus. I have thought that way a few times myself. I give myself 10 minutes on the pity pot then I must get off to brighter places. That old phrase, “it’s a bitch getting old” barely states it as well as you have just done. Hope the rest of your day is brighter. 🙂
