Nature’s Cento

colour comes creeping in

Insects flittering,
leaves flickering in the breeze
filter the light with moving speckles.
Glistening blue and green
of dragonfly delight the eye
Cacophony of birdsong
tunes the ear to individual airs
A waft of flowery fragrance
scents the air as a small miracle
of light bathes fields in gold.
Scent, sight and sound restore me –
defeat my grumpy mood

CC at dVerse Poets’ pub gives us some superb examples of nature poems and asks us to take our inspiration from the natural world around us for a short poem.  Nature is so often the theme of my poems, especially my “30 days of wild” in June that I was able – with some editing – to make a cento poem from bits and bobs of them.

  3. Weeds are among
    my most favorite
    flowers.. so wild
    and free.. and
    the dandeLion
    sings his
    song..
    i refuse
    to cut him
    early to chagrin
    of my neighbors..:)

  4. If you hadn’t told us, I never would have guessed that you pulled this poem together with “bits and bobs” of other poems. It hangs together quite beautifully and peacefully. The sights and sounds of nature can definitely lift a grumpy mood. Peace, Linda

  5. It is great how moments in nature dispel our grumpiness. Like you, I had one of those nights, but lately the weather is allowing us to have breakfast on the deck after walking the dogs–so healing. I loved the dragonfly that caught your eye.

You have captured well the ability of Nature to restore us…our negative moods, even the grumpiest ones…how can they stay stuck when a dragonfly is nearby?? Thanks for linking up 🙂

Nature as panacea, ah yes; what a lovely cento adventure you have given us; just a shaft of beauteous brevity.

Dragonflies! Oh my. This was a most enjoyable listing of beauty and joy of nature and how it can take away the grumpies. I loved the use of that word.

This made me smile as I can get moody & grumpy too ~ I specially like this part:

    A waft of flowery fragrance
scents the air as a small miracle
of light bathes fields in gold.

You do make the most of the beautiful natural setting in your poems. I like the contrast between all of nature’s beauties (described in such lovely images and poetic words) with the shock of the word ‘grumpy’.

It does play at the senses – all of them, and each one plays a part in stripping away all the cares that have come to clutter our thoughts and weight us down. I def rather like dragon flies.
