Grasses flatten,
ripple and wave
become a slave
before it.
Laundry flaps
with loud snaps
like whips
before it.
Trees creak
boughs break
tiles fall
from the wall
before it.
petals spoil
flowers toil
uproot from soil
before it.
Too heavy to push
too strong to rush
fresh and clean
everything leans
before it.
Guest poster Kathleen Everett at dVerse Poets’ Pub gives us the subject of March wind for this week’s Poetics. I’m still in rhyming mood after a week of rhyming for Phoenix Rising, hence today’s offering.
Hello there,
Your poetry is so fresh and inspiring! Truly remarkable!

I could feel and hear and smell the wind in this. The repetitive line is great. I remember sheets on the line on a windy day how they billowed and flapped and snapped. Good memory. And you don’t name it but though invisible, you show it to us in all the actions. Great!

We had a lot of those trees creaking and boughs breaking this past weekend at our house. Scared my little dog half to death and made a mess of the neighborhood. Nice illustration of the power of the wind. Peace, Linda

you have captured the march winds well – I know cyclists cringe… before it. 🙂

I foremost that you have distanced yourself from mentioning the wind.. you increase your awareness of all the facets of the wind by treating it as what it is, rather than its name… wonderful

I like the rhythm and rhyming – the laundry flapping in the breeze brings back memories – I miss having a clothesline! Thanks for sharing this with us!

We’re not allowed a line here, but dry the laundry out on the patio on 2 wire racks when the weather permits. It’s not quite as good as a line, but at least the clothes are in the fresh air. My green instincts won’t let me use an electric drier

everything must bow before the wind…
it can be pretty awesome in its destructive force when it really gets going….
you capture the wind well…

I especially like the laundry flapping and slapping. It brings back memories from my childhood days when my other used to hang out clothes!

the march wind feels like a big broom sometimes… making the world fresh and clean and ready for spring and all the flowers to bud soon… smiles… we had some nasty march winds over here lately…

I like your rhyming – it fits with the vigorous, snappy nature of the wind. And the rhymes are not too perfect and pretty either, gives it a bit of an edge!
