We can survive a power cut
The long-awaited wood-burning stove was installed this week in our all-electric home. 
No more need for quilts to snuggle under while reading or watching TV. We lit it yesterday and were toasty warm. The electric heating didn’t come on until hours after it had gone out. I took nicer pictures, including cheerful flames, but they’ve disappeared from the computer.
As I write, there are bangs and scrapes from the living room where Jock is turning the carpet round and moving the furniture. I’m keeping out of the way – it’s not going to work, as all the electric sockets are in the wrong places.. We’ll have to live with it for a bit until we find the best arrangement of all the clutter.

I love the warmth from a stove like that, it makes me feel like I am wrapped up in a quilt. A perfect day would be a cup of tea and a book next to the stove.

Nothing beats wood-fired toastiness. It’s -15F (-26C) here at 7AM with wind chill feeling like -30F. Glad you’re staying warm, V!

Love it – it looks like ours actually – is it a Jotul? Sometimes, when we have ours going full blast we have to open the door into the conservatory to dispel some of the heat! It’s been very mild here so far this winter but apparently it’s due to get colder soon so it will be pressed into service more often soon.

Yes, it is a Jotul. Frost on the ground this morning, but stove not lit as Jock will be painting the back panel on the wall. There is no fireplace.

Looking good! Chimney looks like ours apart from we have more of a rubber hood thing where it comes out of the roof. I woke up cold this morning and lit ours but I believe we forecast to be the warmest part of Britain today – the met office tells me it was 1C at 7am and the coldest it got all night was 0.8. Felt mighty cold outside last night with the wind chill factor but not too bad when I went out for wood this morning. Sally
