Cold, hard and helpless
against unstoppable force
the young girl shivers
Cold and pain bite now –
arrival is imminent,
last effort needed
Ultimate struggle
to triumphal arrival
of joy to the world.
For Meeting the Bar at dVerse, Gay Reiser Cannon asks us for a birthday poem. My first attempt was graphic in the extreme, unreadable, so I set to anew, and came up with this little haiku chain.
Beautifully done – indeed the moment of ultimate struggle is so felt through your words, apologies I took longer to read your piece.
Wish you a merry Christmas…

Ah.. this reminds me of all the struggles our ancestors face in the cold elements of environment unadulterated by the comforts of abstract language.. collective intelligence and cultural clothes….
To think that if just one part of the links that make us what we are ALL back to the origin of all that is..
is broken by someone who is not brave enough to go on.. for our mere existence as is…
Is truly a miracle of life…
as is..
as birth truly is the meaning of life….
in every now that is..
a precious commodity of love.. that is….survival of the fearless for every now…
of now….in the core of what unconditional love truly is…..:)
Happy Holidays and an ever happy now..to you..:)

Your few choice words, your haiku lines, stand tall, for the message to humanity was clarion, & 2000 years later, we are still trying to deal with the ramifications.

This is a beautiful expression of the scene. I can see it applied to many young women–alone and poor–in our own day and age. And how well your haiku expresses how it must have been for Mary.

How frightened she must have been, and likely so young. Wonder what her Jewish family thought. Lucky she had angels guiding her and her man through that process – a trip to Bethlehem, and then a flight into Egypt. Scary stuff but they had a guiding light! An entire set of miracles. Lovely poem. Have a brilliant Christmas, dear friend.

that had to be a very interesting night…knowing you are giving birth to the savior…and the expectation that comes with that…but then as well in the manger…or perhaps distracted from that by the hope…

It must have been a terrible ordeal.. trying to understand the young couple .. teenager, having to find a place to give birth.. and yes joy to the world at the end.
