At the dVerse pub they are delving into the fantasy of fictional characters coming to life, and of finding ourselves somewhere else while at Red Wolf Poems, it’s some-when else.
My mind wandered………..
Time Travel
Where am I?
Everyone says it when
consciousness returns,
but where is here?
The Tower of London of course, dear.
I’m still confused.
A whiff of roses in December?
No, dear, it’s September.
Which year?
Fifteen seventy-three.
Oh dear.
I must still be dreaming.
What happened in
Fifteen seventy-three?
And what will happen to me?
Elizabeth, you say? Oh her,
the other one, the Virgin Queen.
Well, that’s no fun, and besides,
she had folk beheaded on a whim.
Please can I go back to twenty-o-three?
At least I would be
a few years younger.
A fun piece, Viv.

I would certainly like to see what the other Elizabeth was like. She seems to have been such a formidable person. Yet I think I would not like to live ‘there’ permanently. Today suits me fine. Great take on the prompt, viv!

Pragmatic as always!
Speaking of time travel, I’m reading the ‘Outlander’ series of books by Diana Gabaldon, where a woman goes back from 1945 to 1743. I can’t get through them fast enough. When I’ve finished, I will wish I could time travel back to a time when I hadn’t read them, so I could start again 🙂

I have them all, and re-read them from time to time. They are terrific.

I can’t believe you never told me about them! They’ve been out since 1991.

Sorry. I bought them as they came out.
On TV the other day, they gave a recipe that made me think of you: you dunk Maltesers in a tot of whisky, and when the glass is full of Maltesers, you drink/eat them.

I think I’m in love. 🙂
Did you know they’ve made a series of Outlander…? Just sayin’…

I think to see it (film? TV?) would spoil the pictures.
Have you read the series that started with The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M Auel. I think you’d love them (more akin to Hunger Games, than Outlander)

Read the first one many years ago but didn’t enjoy it.

They say that we would not survive in the past, because our immune systems could not tolerate the non-hygienic environments; but hey, dreaming we are safe, even though we might believe for a moment while dreaming that we’re not. My poem dealt with dreaming as well; cool.

That makes you 23, which would be a VERY good age for me!

Cute… like the bit of rhythm… why do we always think everything was good in the Good Old Days

the idea of time travel intrigues…and yet you can only be here, now …so if you are there, you are still here, now. Intriguing!

Well, it might be fun to be back in the 1500’s for a short time, but I do think that it would not take too long to miss the modern conveniences! And I wouldn’t even want to return to 2003 at the moment…..as I know now what all I would have to live through to get to the present time. Maybe there is a good reason for there not being time travel. Smiles.

1573 – that would be an interesting time to go back to…even though a dangerous time as well.. how cool would it be if we really could do time travel and how alive history would be suddenly…
