To walk between shadows of raindrops
requires agility, persistence, ability —
a crazy secret seer of spaces
where diamond drops don’t fall
and a strange shine enthrals.
Childhood tricks taught us
to avoid the cracks, prisoners of ritual,
placement of feet exact, with laughter
at the martyrdom of freedom
to walk at random.
Octpo Day 19 the prompt is Raindrops on my Windowpane, which fitted in well for me with the Wordle words, of which I failed to use only one.
Fantastic. My favorite poem so far, and I’m reading from last to first. Excellent work.

A little walking at random is good for us all. We learn some of our most useful things in childhood.

Love both the playfulness and the serious undercurrent in this one. I believe that most writers write because they see it as a way to walk at random,

I still don’t walk on cracks and joins in paving slabs. Is that sad?!!

Really, really awesome. And it did make me smile rather, to see such reflection in metaphor, but I guess there are only so many phrases one can use for raindrops.
I love the freedom idea 🙂

All those cracks, and all those poorly mothers’ backs! Love this one, Viv.

What a beautiful piece…almost as if playfulness gets better with time and age because we can do what we want in those puddles

Curiously I always thought that by avoiding the cracks or lines we were exercising a freedom that others did not choose. They uncaring risked being sucked down by monsters in the cracks.

I don’t think I’d ever have the agility or ability to avoid the raindrops. I’m imagining some supernaturally skilled and quirky wizard who could do this. 🙂
