Gratitude –
for abundant harvest after splendid summer
for change of colour
for renewal of our distant view
for the prospect of cozy.
Melancholy –
for the state of the world,
for approaching chill,
for ageing and failing
in the rush towards death.
The prompt for OctPoWriMo day 5 is for an Autumn poem, using at least 3 of the following words: chill, renewal, death, rebirth, harvest, melancholy, aging, change

It’s a balancing act! You’ve overcome your ‘failing’ for a little while, I’m glad to say. 🙂 Dad is worrying me a bit but at 86 what can you expect? How’s Jock doing?

And such is the stuff of which live is made, isn’t it, Viv? So much tragedy in the world, so much fear–real or created by the media. But then, there’s the beauty.

unlike the planet, our own cycles lead us inexorably to winter and the end of life. Perhaps it is why winter is not a well loved season.

You suprised me by starting with harvest. I liked the suprise! Beautiful last verse too.

Oh gosh, YES! So much very yes. I really struggle with autumn and the disappearance of all the lovely Good Things like light, and warmth, and colour. The dolor of winter gets to me, and anticipating it doesn’t render the in-between time endearing!
