These words come from a political pamphlet found by Brenda Warren at the Sunday whirl. The first thoughts that came to mind when I read Brenda’s email were:
Hypocrisy and lies.
The whole voting community
elects government for our state,
to listen to our concerns,
collaborate to serve,
care for us all the best they can,
in honesty and fairness,
but does it work? Hell, no!
The chat for decades pours scorn
on men of politics, their extravagant antics,
their scandals and their egos –
trust a thing of the past.
From time immemorial politicians
have served themselves first,
their party second and us last.
To the devil with the hindmost.
Well said! Unfortunately, politicians are a necessary evil . Egocentric, overpaid and in it for what they can get out of it. You’ve set me off now!

Many people are disillusioned about government . I think the people in government are just like the rest of us, some are very good, some are fine, some are mediocre , some are stupid, and a few are evil. Let’s hope we can catch the evil before it is too late.

I am so completely disenfranchised with politics and politicians and we are approaching midterm elections which means so many unsoliticed phone calls and ringing doorbells that send the dogs into a frenzy. I want to barf!

I too am disenfranchised: we have no vote in UK and can only vote in local and European Parliament elections in France, but not for the national government. I had no idea that canvassing was so aggressive in the US.

Excellent use of the words.
You made them work well for you – you smoothed them and the piece nicely.
Not an easy task with the given words.
And you picked an eternal theme.
BTW – line 5, typo “tor” “for”
Now, for some controversial comments to match your controversial piece.
While you wrote:
“From time immemorial politicians
have served themselves first,
their party second and us last. ”
and I wholeheartedly agree with this for the most part (there are some dedicated politicians),
I believe that government isn’t necessarily evil, it’s just some of the men who serve in it who are immoral, and then there is the rest of us who allow them to get away with what they do.
I think you hinted at this in the beginning of your poem.
The same with corporations. They aren’t evil. It’s the folks who run them that can be evil, and what we let them get away with. Governments and corporations are simply objects/processes that we’ve created for our good.
If the purpose of a poem is to stimulate…. you’ve done your job well! Randy
