CONVERSATION PIECE
Says Poppy to Tima
”….Climatology is an interesting topic
which might explain the chaotic weather
which is sending us all frantic.
In, out, out, in –
we don’t know where we are.
Grass is growing then it’s snowing –
it really is not fair,
and while I’m about it,
can we get rid of this pesky fence,
I want to come and play with you
but every time I try –
so vexing, I declare –
I hurt myself against the wire.”
Says Tima, the baby, to Poppy
”Don’t worry, dear, I’ll find a way;
to play is what we need to do,
so we’ll learn to climb or jump
or even fly right through,
on this I am hellbent.
Then we can chat about the weather,
gambol and frolic
until our hearts’ content.”
I came across the photograph on the marvellous Kitchen’s Garden blog, and felt that it cried out for a haiga or a poem. I’ve carried it about with me for days, but nothing came to me. Then the Meeting the Bar prompt at dVerse, is all about half rhyme, slant rhyme and the like – right up my street. I entirely egree with the host that regular whole rhyme often turns a poem into doggerel, so there is no rhyme pattern in my poem, but the occasional full and half rhymes, rarely where you would expect them.
So sweet!

They are so cute. I like the way this was written and I love the title. I used to pet sit for a pig which sounds odd because this pig lived in the city…in a greenhouse. So this make me think of Tofu (the pig) but they sure do look friendly!

This is so charming, Viv, and there is something very striking about piggies being more realistic about climatology and climate change than many politicians! There’s a kind of sweetness about it all and the mixture of rhyme and half0rhyme keeps the lightness. Thanks. k.

It felt like it rhymed all the way through, even though it didn’t. Nice rhythm. I love this: Grass is growing then it’s snowing – sums up climate change beautifully.
