Indolence creeps in as poetry escapes

A fun lunch yesterday among friends in the village brasserie left me too full to stir all afternoon, except to welcome the techy genius from the computer shop who came to instal the new printer that had previously defied all efforts to make it work.  I have a desperate fear of new computer equipment!

🙂 Love your six, Viv (but sorry, I’m learning Windows 8.1 now) ~~ at least good for a little Senryū. My trial:

We don’t clean out our mistletoe either. “They” say too much might kill the tree. Your magnolia find is nice too. Our neighbor has one at the property line and it has a few blooms now. Soon it will be covered with them.

Houston and surrounding is notorious for lack of public mass transit. The city proper has a fairly decent bus system and two light rail trains. But we are in the suburbs in an adjacent county and we don’t even have busses. So cars are a necessity for these homeless people to have jobs. The wages are so low that day care and twice daily cab fare would take all of the earnings of one person. Distances to most job sites would be prohibitive to walking. Sixteen miles is a conservative estimate of the average commute. My last two years I had a 75 mile commute each way. That was an easy hard three hours of driving.

🙂 This got way too long, I’m sorry (a little bit), but gotta send this:

(“The wages are so low that day care and twice daily cab fare would take all of the earnings of one person”) rather, ‘average person’ who is coming from the ranks of the homeless. Most, but not all, lack training or experience. A lot are returning Armed Service members. Our president, Mr. Obama, would like to increase the minimum wage to $10.50 or so. Our mixed up Congress will never approve anything like this.

    • It’s an apple tree. The mistletoe berries are eaten by birds, the birds excrete the seeds which plant themselves onto the tree, and grow into huge bunches as in the picture: they feed off the tree as true parasites, and eventually kill the tree. That’s why the farmers are supposed to remove it!

I read poetry all throughout this! What a wonderful photo of a spring I so long for. I think I’d love to come and collect that mistletoe for myself, if you weren’t so many miles away! Enjoy your weekend!
