I am repulsed by politics
hypocrisy, cant, and worse, lies.
we should all believe in kindness
and as much as we can, truth.
hypocrisy, cant, and worse, lies.
we should all believe in kindness
and as much as we can, truth.
Hypocrisy, cant and worse, lies
prevent us reaching happiness,
by the antithesis of truth.
all partners to aggressiveness.
We never will reach happiness
if we pursue with selfishness
those partners of aggressiveness
politics, hypocrisy and lies.
We must be done with selfishness
and live our lives in kindliness
care, honesty and goodliness
and be repulsed by politics.
Over at dVerse, the prompt is all about repetition. The pantoum is a highly repetitive form but I like to vary the repeated lines a little. Sorry about the vehemence – I’ve just been reading a newspaper!
It is now definitely a tragic state of affairs. You wrote our (US) reality.

I wish there was a paper specialising in only good news. Excellent choice of form for this; bad news often repeats itself over and over and …. yes, over

I’m never that convinced of the pantoum form…. but this is a good attempt!

Lies and politics are, of course, synonyms.

reading newspapers does that to me too {growls} – great idea to use that form, the truth of what you say really lands home

I couldn’t agree with you more….especially that last stanza. If people would live by these, the world would be by far a better place!!

I think being angry reading the newspaper is still so much better than being duped by television.. and just remember politics is derived from poly and tics 🙂 … or at least I prefer to think so sometimes.

Politics of whatever calling or or degree of intense do create feelings of anger and frustrations. The evening papers are no exception.Your pantoum choice is perfect Viv!

Very effective use of the form, Viv! I am afraid a number of politicians are more interested in being elected than in the welfare if their fellow citizens. The vehemence of your words made me wonder what you had been reading.

ugh…reading the newspaper makes me angry as well at times – esp. about certain politicians…def. we need a change towards kindness and honesty…that would make the world look different

every where in the world, politics is dirty…

Unfortunately we can change only ourselves and spread the kindness and honesty…if it catches, that would be great 😉

oh well done, repetition and vehemence sometimes must go hand in hand!

I have always thought that kindness is a very under-rated attribute. A kind person is a treasure indeed. That’s why you are such a treasure.. c

Hi Viv–thanks for the pantoum! Honestly, a little variation keeps it lively and not so formulaic. It is awful–what is most repulsive to me is MoNEY in politics, which has just gotten completely out of wack over here–oh well–thanks. k.

ha. the newspaper…or the evening news all the worse…will def lead to that…
i really dread political season around here…a whole bunch of empty promises
forgotten once they are in the door….our system is broke…the choice is
only between the schmucks they put in front of us…

I love that word schmucks. It must have been coined for politicians.

Just an aside: interesting etymology, schmuck – German and Yiddish for jewellery, came to refer to a man’s “crown jewels” hence is equivalent to all those other terms derived from male genitalia that mean worthless, useless, stupid etc! Apart from which – I love your pantoum, very skilfully constructed and very forceful. And I totally agree with the sentiment expressed.
