CHEERFULNESS IN ADVERSITY
in other words, to stop moaning and get on with living. My son occasionally puts a word he’s just discovered on his Facebook page, long words, with definition and derivation. I’ve learned a lot of lovely new words from him, but I turned the tables on him with a word I found in a poem and had to look up on Wikipedia:
PRANAYAMA – a Sanskrit word meaning extension of life force, energy. The word is composed of two Sanskrit words, Prana, life force, or vital energy, particularly, the breath, and “ayāma”, to extend or draw out. (Not ‘restrain, or control’ as is often translated from ‘yam’ instead of ‘ayāma’). The origins of this yogic discipline lies in ancient Bharat (India) and what is known as present day Hinduism.
I decided that that was what I needed: ever since my spine let me down big time following the move, I have followed the line of least resistance, in fact more or less stopped living properly, written rubbish and moaned a lot. So for 2014, I resolve to moan less and just get on with things as best I can.
This is great. I especially loved “stop moaning and get on with living.” What are we missing while we’re drowning in self pity? Really makes you think.
Hope 2014 brings you many blessings! 🙂

A good bitch-and-moan session can be very cathartic but, as you so correctly pointed out, when it begins to colour who you are and how you see the world then, perhaps, it is time to re-evaluate your life. Good luck in 2014. Hopefully, the year of sour grapes will yield many a glass of fruitful wine. Take care of your back. Been there, done that…..no fun.

Back pain isn’t for sissies. Don’t be too hard on yourself. But you are right. There comes a time when we must simply “cowboy up” and get on with it. Wishing you a healthy, happy new year.

May 2014 be a much better year for you and may your resolves hold true! I converted from Lutheranism to Buddhism a decade or two back and this is a very familiar word and concept for me! Would not have got thru’ life without taking it seriously . . .

Sanskrit on your site! The learned parent of modern Hindi.
Dhruvasimha is another bit of Sanskrit. Dhruva means dependable and so it became the name of the Pole Star. Simha (the m is a ng sound as in Singhalese) is Lion.
Dhruvasimha is the blue coloured Buddha on the ‘Wheel of Life’ who reads a book to the animal world in order to raise its consciousness.
So ends today’s Sanskrit lesson.
I earnestly wish for your back to heal.
Have a lovely 2014.

A sequel? Who knows? Should I bother? World sales in December of ‘Tom Fleck’ would amount to one if it had not been for the lady who called at the door and bought five for Xmas presents. I’m a third through the sequel but have sort of run aground … need a couple of stout tugs.

I like the idea, and like it even more when one can be cheerful about the adversity taking a hike! 🙂

Gosh, sometime I enjoy a good moan but not too often as the dog tires of hearing the same old thing.

That’s a good resolution. Your English is already so good, though….. When I learn a new word, Engish or French, I have to keep using it for a week before it sinks in.

I like “cheerfulness in adversity”. I shall stop by and read your contributions to the goodwill of humankind. For my part, I plan to continue to bitch and moan as I drag through the most perfect existence I can imagine.
Sorry about your back needing some time off from things after your big move. It shall be better soon. The days are already growing longer. The sun does amazing things for health.
Much love.
