Progression

Young love. white wedding wonder,
blissful consummation,
happy days of homemaking
child-raising and lively conversation.

Humdrum years can dull the passion
one or other seeks adventure.
Greener grass elsewhere it seems –
happy home in danger.

Betrayal leads to angry shouting:
you did, I didn’t, disputation.
Lawyers cause more aggravation,
separation, family broken, divorce.

Poetic Bloomings prompt for a poem containing a dramatic change produced this sad story.

A progression not along a road to progress for the future. Happens all the time and lawyers don’t help either. Great observation Viv!

  2. Sad commentary, isn’t it? It seems that few work hard at marriage…and it is work!

ugh yes… if we’re not careful and re-kindle the flames again and again this is exactly what happens…sad…

Perhaps if young hopefuls read this “progression” poem, they might avoid its pitfalls and marry for other qualities than passion.

A life story in just three short stanzas – a remarkable power of condensation.

A reminder for me that , as in history where we have a timeous progression, humans do not necessarily grow or progress in the same fashion…

well you took us on the full cycle in this…its sad too that people lose the passion for discovering each other thinking they have figured it all out…and those greener pastures are often even shorter lived….

  11. What I learned from my first marriage is this: Be mindful of the quality that attracts you most to your possible mate. It’s probably the thing that will drive you bonkers later on!

This was sad but true, Viv. I wish endings were always preventable, but once respect goes out the window, it’s done, kids or no. And often the children are better off without all the shouting, you know? Your poem’s characters’ names are both Legion. Amy

  12. Sad indeed. I wish couples could see more clearly…sometimes when people are so close to the problem they can’t see the simple solution they only see endings as a means for an answer to their issues.

This writing is so direct and frames out the great contrast between the two states of being in relationship. Nicely done, Viv! 🙂
