One step forward, two steps backward
This time last year a hospital room was the setting for my birthday celebrations. Jock and two friends arrived with a pretend birthday cake – a wrapped tin of Quality Street with a faux candle that played “Happy Birthday”. This year we are taking four friends to lunch in la
Maison des Deux Chefs, a delightful restaurant in town. I just feel ten years older than last year.
Happy belated birthday, dear Viv. May the coming year bring you good health and much happiness. So much happiness, that the Annus Horribilis will fade from your memory. At least just a bit.

Yes, you have been through quite a time! But I’m glad it’s the restaurant this year. 🙂

I was remembering how tough things were for you last year, V. & it sounds like it’s been a rough year. If I had a magic wand, I’d be waving it all over the place for you.
I would have responded sooner, but the WiFi on the train was sporadic & my computer wouldn’t cooperate. I’m home at last, getting caught up & wishing you the very best.

Bless you, Viv! You’re still here and that might not have been the case 🙂
Just been over to Sally’s to say “hi”- I loved the poetry, and of course, your response.
On an Edinburgh note, I meant to say that it was actually much warmer than Northumberlandia (but where wasn’t it! 🙂 ) Have a wonderful day, dear, and a much better year ahead.

Thank you, dear Jo, for your kind comments. I’m glad you weren’t frozen up there in the North.

A satisfied Birthday – perchance not up but it seems to me not down! Love the idea of the particular risotto and have been ‘there’ with the foie gras I love but negate in so many differing ways . . . God bless . . .

Doesn’t it feel great, though, NOT to have to celebrate in the hospital?

Seems to me that feeling old goes in spurts, some giant steps every few years. I am glad this year is soooo much better for you than last. I love your dinner, but you can have my Foie Gras. Mrs. Jim’s dream was to be in France having Foie Gras with a fresh baked baguette, some cheese, and a bottle of wine on a roadside picnic. That dream finally came back in the 90’s. We have done that many times since.
🙂 Stay warm, Cheers,

Thank you for the musical wishes, Jim. The year between the two birthdays has been nothing but horribilis, and it’s not getting much better any time soon! Today was exceptional.

The lunch was gorgeous! Foie Gras (yes I know. but it is a special feast for me. No-one else had it). Scallops with a risotto, sauce of ceps and slices of black radish, then chocolate crême brulée.(with a firework display). Tea back at the house and Jock’s just taking the harem home. Now I’m going to sleep!
