The straight and even stitches have a sounder scientific foundation, too. Far more durable.

Actually, I like “higgledy-piggledy” much more! There’s something about assymetry that attracts me. I know, I’m weird that way… a nd about 256 other ways! (wink)

dear Viv I’m sure you must be right and your hand has held more needles than mine ever will. however I remember the flower garden of a neighbor not far from here. short behind tall, or too close, even overlapped, each different landed as if by a random wind. was it purely chance or just her enthusiasm? any spare space would do. I was no less pleased. so I’m sure you’re right but I’ll also adore random flowers, even random words and the hand behind them all. including yours.

That’s so kind, Neil. Like you, I enjoy the serendipity of random seeding, and many’s the scrap quilt I have made in higgledy-piggledy style. https://vivinfrance.wordpress.com/2012/10/22/randomicity-quiltyhaiga-obsession/
The stitches are a different matter – they need to be even and straight or things don’t go together properly.
