Napowrimo/PAD day 2

Unwanted Guest

He arrives uninvited,
stays for far too long,
threatens every respite
with the worst of wrong,
torments then withdraws,
tantalises  with false hope,
returns  re-inforced
ever-present in the shadows
waiting to enforce dominion.
Blatant power triumphs
and only then departs,
leaves reluctant hosts bereft.

The prompt at is to write a visitor poem.  Also posted at

  1. Traci B says:

That particular guest has visited a couple of times lately – first, a great-uncle (who was a great uncle) passed away a couple of weeks ago. We had a real New Orleans jazz funeral for him, even though we weren’t in NOLA. It was the most fun I ever had at a funeral.

Then last week, a member of my church passed suddenly. We were all in shock; his health, as far as anyone knew, was good. We’re having a tribute service for him at church on the 15th, as his family wanted it.

So yes, I definitely “get” this poem. Well written, Viv.

  2. An eerie poem, Viv. It is about death, right? Or am I way off base?
