In Autumn 2010, I took seeds from all the fading annual flowers in my garden, put them in an envelope in the arrière cuisine and forgot about them. In Spring, I was looking for something to brighten up the eighty metres of wire fence which separates our drive from the cows in the field. Eureka, last year’s seeds were found. More in hope than expectation, I scattered them in the gap between our fence and the farmer’s electric fence.
For months we, countless birds and insects and our neighbours have been treated to a copious display of lavatera (mallow), California poppies, red poppies, and latterly, marigolds. I’m sad that the summer show is coming to an end, but have high hopes of renewal next year.
that is definitely something to look forward to next spring for. beautiful photo!

What a fantastic idea — scattering seeds near that fence. I am tempted to do that, too.

Lavatera is beautiful all by itself. What a lovely idea and, lovely flash of colours for your troubles, so much nicer than seeing an electrified fence.

There might even be a young holly among that lot – and a bramble.
