Rising and falling

This is my pathetic failure in response to Poetic Bloomings’ Wednesday prompt at http://poeticbloomings2.wordpress.com/2011/10/09/rise-and-fall-prompt-24/

Rising to the occasion
I stand up for the National Anthem (any)

Falling short

I couldn’t fulfil
my parents’ expectations,
nor my own ambitions
until I learned to accept reality.
Acceptance came too late
to prevent feelings of inadequacy

If you’ll stand up for any national anthem, you are a world-class woman! Or maybe a worldly-wise woman! Or maybe a citizen-of-the-world woman!

At any rate, there’s nothing pathetic about your contribution at all. You’ve been brutally honest in “Falling Short” and I applaud you!
