at http://wordsinsync.blogspot.com/2011/08/weekend-creation-blog-hop-plus-poem_19.html they’re asking us to create something – anything. I chose to create this poem.
at http://dversepoets.com/ liv2write2day talks about texture as part of the tools of the artist. My laptop was on the dining table, opposite a couple of my paintings, painted with oomph and lots of paint, if very little skill. They inspired these
Impasto – folded knobbly paint
applied with knife, big brush and fingers
to a simple vase of flowers.
Colour laid as thick as bark
ensures the texture lingers –
a vital part of a slapdash image,
hallmark of the splodginess
inherent in my character.
Maybe this is how to write
– broad brush sweeping,
value blurred in woolly words
rather than precise, strict form and tempo,
meaning shrouded for safe-keeping
in a mesh of metaphor.
The reason some of the flowers are dying is because the picture took me three weeks to paint! The reason that the yellow flowers are fresh and bright is because the picture took only an afternoon to paint.
