Napo 14 prompt is to write a sonnet
I wrote this a while ago but have revised it several times today.
True-blue Lady
She came when she was truly needed.
Like most politicians, she went too far,
curdled the milk of human kindness
into the soup of wannabe riches.
Her me-first society found new ways
to wrest from the have-nots,
give more to the haves.
There is no middle way to paint her,
she is celebrated or reviled.
A monstrous ego with a handbag,
or clever, robust, gutsy lady?
No lukewarm adjectives apply.
The pits are gone – miners on the bier –
go ask about her in South Yorkshire.
They are all the same.

Being from the other side of the pond, I’m not as familiar with the lady, but she sounds very much like too many of our politicians here. My favorite line was, “A monstrous ego with a handbag,” Good one Viv!!

Too true, if you went to South Yorkshire, they’d tell you that Maggie Thatcher’s got a lot to answer for. Not to mention bus deregulation… I could go on!

I take it you’re against it then, as I was at the time, but country buses at least have started to improve in Northumberland.

What a great sonnet. I especially enjoyed”curdled the milk of human kindness
into the soup of wannabe riches.” Great job!

I love the idea that it’s all about perspective.
I remember this one and I like it even more second time around.

I wonder who you could be talking about… 😉

She must really get around, cause I’m pretty sure I know her. Great description, Viv,
