Cosmos for March18 challenge

Wikipaedia tells me
that Cosmos is a harmonious system
such as a universe or outer space
from a Greek word meaning  order,
or maybe ornament.

The Oxford Book of Garden Plants
thinks it is a daisy-like annual flower
from a Greek word meaning beautiful
but Wikki says it’s a perennial,
take your pick.

When they make up their minds
I may write a poem about it.

  1. Mike Patrick says:

I had an uncle who was a serious amateur photographer with thousands of dollars worth of camera equipment. His specialties were flowers and stained glass windows. A drive in the country was an adventure with him. Without warning, he would skid to a stop, jump out of the car and grab his gear out of the trunk (‘boot’ to those of you who talk funny). We kids would follow him, usually having to climb over a fence to get into a weed-filled field. We would catch up to where he was lying on the ground next to a flower, mumbling, “And who are you, my little friend,” he would set up a camera with a special lens, place it on tiny tripod, and get a series of close-up photographs of the flower. The man was a fount of knowledge on flowers. I did not inherit that gene. I wish I had. Until this challenge, I never knew that a cosmos was a flower.

Nice way of dealing with an impossible subject!

  6. Do I detect just a bit of tongue-in-cheek? Cosmos is one of my favorite flowers in the whole cosmos and it’s an annual that reseeds itself so it must be a perennial annual.
