An unpopular point of view

Street Art

Though sometimes called monstrosity,

p o e t r y   b o m b i n g   and g r a ff I t i

are expressions of frustration

at mainstream pomposity

hypocrisy, dishonesty

and all the other osities;

a way of exploration

without remuneration

in what is called street art,

vulgar and freaky

cheeky, sometimes creepy,

but true democracy at work.

This is for Meeting the Bar at dVerse

I  sincerely admire much graffiti, which can brighten up dreary concrete spaces with wit, skill and real passion.  I did the poetry bombing last March, in various places including a café and among the flowers in the Botanical gardens.  I must write more French poetry, as there’s no point in leaving poems that are incomprehensible to the finder.

  1. Such a great idea!! I, too, love the osities and the different colors and fonts!! Fun!

  2. Your poem, made into visual art with font and color changes, is a hit with rhymes, near-rhymes and a fun cadence. I LOVE the idea of poetry bombing. WHY have I not thought of this. I shall be printing out some work and bombing my community soon. Thank you VIV!!!!!

  3. Heavens, I LOVE the poetry bombing, I so admire your handiwork. Have you seen Elling the movie, he is the underground poet E. You’ve tickled me pink.

Yes, it is democracy at work! And thank you for the mention of poetry bombing, which led me on an enthralling investigation. Can’t wait to try my own version (when I think it up). The public notice boards around town occur to me – poems amongst the ads for rooms wanted, used furniture for sale, and so on. :)

  6. Love the idea of poetry bombing – might have a go…

My greatest wish is to experience a flash mob – opera – would be a dream come true…if only…
