Imaginary Garden with Real Toads have issued the Dubstep Goat Challenge. Reading the contributions from other poets has not thrown much light on the subject, so
Maybe
if I knew what a Dubstep Goat was
or how it differed
from any other four-legged furry omnivore
I might be able to answer the prompt.
I watched the clips,
charming as they were,
but failed to find inspiration
to answer the prompt.
I have a horrible feeling
that I have outlived my era,
and so I decline
to answer the prompt.

I love your frank response, Viv! And that you still found the words to express your lack of words, sometimes that’s the most apt reply. I like the sing song here and cohesiveness with which you convey the emotion of feeling left in the cold.
I chose Dubstep Goats for the toads for this very reason: it was a difficult challenge centered more on taking your own meaning from something nearly incomprehensible and noisy, and you did so well. Thanks for participating, merry new year, and Viva la!!!!
Well, I enjoyed reading this, but haven’t seen the prompt yet, so I’m off to have a dekko!
You might find it easier to see than to hear.
There is a dancing video that made it clearer for me.
Quite hypnotic actually and not half as scary as I had imagined.
But the goat….escapes me too.
I did look at the clips, but was unable to write anything coherent afterwards!
Maybe is my fav.. gave me a great laugh!! c
..well, that could be the most honest surrender to a prompt… Cool write… Smiles…
Good for you!
Um…I think you just DID! lol
All Hail the Dubstep Goat!
haha…that was really clever… i think all of us have our Dubstep Goats that we don’t understand…and we don’t have to understand everything either…very cool viv
Hehehehe…good one Viv.
Ha ha…nice!
I thought that it was clever. I have never seen a dubstep goat myself but it sure sounds funny.
Having no earthly idea what dubstep (or the dubstep goat) myself, I relied on good ol’ Google. Learned quite a bit but still have no clue whether my poem fits the prompt or not!
Haha, I see what you mean now
. Thanks for joining us in between the holidays!
Fabulous!
LOL… do any of us know what we’re doing
Sometimes you’ve got to tell it like it is, I have never heard of this before either!
I am so clueless, I think my brain has gone back to rock n roll !
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the prompt. I feel better knowing I’m not the only one not knowing what it is about.☺
I was a little befuddled, too… and I love that you speak so openly about your conundrum, Viv.
Wow, my son just got into dubstep music so I actually know about that. I love the music too. Youtube has both great goat and cats to dubstep.
I am so happy that my 12 year-old son enjoys this kind of music, though he has switched this week to classical music. Popular music is the least of his interest.
And I am particularly glad I like a lot of my kids’ music too.
Thanx for making me think about it Viv. I am sure there is other stuff that is new that you love!
Oh, Dubstep!! That meme’s very accurate actually. Love the poem!!
what a charming poem, really enjoyed reading this.
it is courageous to step up and say, “i have no clue whatsoever what you’re talking about!”
love what you did here.
Thank you Miriam. I nearly didn’t post it, thinking it might offend.
i’m glad you did… it’s awesome. i will remember this one next time i feel ashamed about not knowing something…
this option is way cooler – we don’t all have to know everything.
I’m happy, too that you chose to post the poem…I breathe a sigh of relief. Good has been done for more than just me if I am reading the responses correctly.♥
smiles…dont worry my mom did not understand my music either…and there are certainly parts of the next gen music i do not get either…to each their own art eh?
Apparently
Dubstep is a genre of electronic music originating from South London in the late nineties. Although it is rather difficult to define, it is generally characterized by a slow tempo, repetitive low-key beats, heavy emphasis on “wobble” bass lines and hard hitting drum patterns.

But what a dubstep goat is, I’m none the wiser.
How very informative. Thank you Sarah. I reckon I should be glad to have outlived my era!
