Carpe Diem

for Octpowrimo 19, where the prompt is “seize the day”.

It’s no use looking forward -
tomorrow never comes.
Worse is looking backward with regret.
Seize the day, they tell us,
is what we have to do:
enjoy the moment to the full,
now, and do not fret
for what could be or might have been;
and yet
you say, “tomorrow may be better,”
but you will never know
for tomorrow never comes.

  1. A clever poem. Love the rhythm and rhyme in this one.

  2. Definitely worth striving for! Great write!

  3. Ah, it’s so true and a wonderful reminder to be present in the every day.

  5. It may be hard for many but it is something worth striving for, the conscience effort to live in the present.

  6. Indeed. Regret and tomorrow kill the day. I’ve lived in both places…neither one is worth the time. Today I am alive…and meant to live it to the full. Thanks for the reminder. I DO wish, however, that I lived in Paris :-) Have a photo, though, standing behind Jean-Paul Sartre’s grave. Love the beauty, art, and cuisine of Paris.

I love it when you leave a Reply
