Weed

Do you remember the Flowerpot Men?
That dandelion  thing behind them?
“Weed” it cried and only “weed”
over and over again.

Watch with Mother in days gone by
gave a quarter of an hour of peace,
time to sit comfy beside the kids
watching Andy Pandy or Weed.

No serious story marred the fun,
catchphrases and language most peculiar -
oddle poddle it was called -
just  for the security of the familiar.

At One Single Impression, the prompt was “Weed” and for those too young to have seen Watch with Mother and the Flowerpot Men on the one and only BBC, you can find the full story here.

Oh VIv , what memories. Monday- Watch with mother, Tuesday – Andy Pandy, Wednesday- Bill and Ben, Thursday- Was it Flopsy, Mopsy and Topsy and Friday the Woodentops. Is that right or do I have false memories?

Watch with Mother was the overall title of all the programmes. I don’t remember which was on what day. There were also The Herbs with a lion, I remember. It was Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail.
They don’t make ‘em like that any more – all the programmes for small children are shouty and with jazzy images that make my head ache. How are our (grand) babies going to learn discrimination?

‘In the Nightgarden’ is a good one for very little ones now if it is still on CBEEBIES – Fraser liked it but it used to annoy me a bit. Here is a you tube clip to amuse those of our generation about Camberwick Green:
