Wordle

Brenda is on holiday somewhere on the water, and gave us these words

marrow, link, store, anchor, wake, navigate, stern, deck, pitch, sink, rail, port

You think I’m going to write something about boats or ships?  Think again.  A search for synonyms for these 12 words found more than 250,  some of them too good to waste.  I am in a silly mood.

‘Disgraceful’ complains Mrs Superstar

On News at Ten tonight, the anchor revealed that the wake  for Johnny Superstar had been held in a liquor store, where the supply of vintage port would have decked even him, drinker to the marrow.  Via satellite link, his widow railed at the behaviour of the guests who had managed to sink enough alcohol to float a battleship (a concession to marine expectations).  Unable to navigate the route to the exit, one inebriated pop singer had pitched a bottle through the plate glass window and led the drunken revellers in a conga out into Piccadilly and along to Trafalgar Square. They dived into a fountain and were arrested en masse by a single stern copper.  The party spent the rest of the night cooling off in the cells.

  1. Viv, you crack me up. Finding synonyms! At first, I thought we were on the same “channel,” as it were, because mine is about the evening news, too, how strange! But yours was a romp, and I thank you for the laughs. Peace, Amy

IT IS A DELIGHTFUL READ. Added an extra smile to my day. I hope that you will do more wordles in the future, I look forward to reading them.

I don’t think I have missed one since they started! When I first wrote wordle poems, I usually took the mickey! I’ve become more adventurous lately.

The double meaning of (a concession to marine expectations) made me laugh out loud, Viv. This is fabulous. I love it.

  4. I love this, Viv. Energetic and unique!

  5. I think you had a lot of fun with this one. I, too, did not use the first definition of the words. I love your newscast.

  6. seingraham says:

Love this Viv; had even thought I might try and do a merry wake of my own but my muse went a different direction, oh what a surprise, you say … good on you for being first in also … always a kind of private brava to me!

In the day, I adored parties like this! Now, I enjoy the news of one!

  9. Great news feed, Vivienne! I’m watching for the film at Eleven O’Clock news. Well wordled.

I thought to go the synonym route, myself…but the words held on to their first thought in my mind. I loved your use of them, though. And, having been to Trafalgar Square, could even picture the drunken conga line! :)
    *hugs*

  11. Misky says:

Ahh, rebellion feels good. Why is that? When young, we most often get slapped down for it, so as the older generation we take liberties and giggle because we got away with it, or because we’ve finally realized we actually have the right, and sometimes the ‘need’ to break the rules, kick up our heels (not too high), and rebel maybe just for rebellion’s sake? Glad to see you had fun with the words. The guy I created would certainly disapprove and that makes me smile.

Loved it. Just the idea of the wake in a liquor store was enough, but the rest of the story worked as well. I made the same effort to avoid the nautical theme.

  15. Yes Viv – echo the foregoing sentiments! A delightful morning (for me) read! I too felt “silly” call to me with these words – Enjoyed your joyous acting out while Brenda is away! :) Cheers!

  16. anl4 says:

Like you I thought I would write about boats, but it was not to be. I enjoyed reading your write about boats.

  17. LOL…very creative. I had thought about rebelling too and not writing a thing to do with boats or sailing but being too busy..took the easy route. This was very clever and, comical.

  18. anjuartwriter says:

Dear Viv you are a creative writer supreme, with profound sense of humour, great write up

  19. Irene says:

Love how you navigated through the drunken stupor. Noted you’ve cleverly used port as a drink, can’t wait to see what the rest of the gang will do.

  20. I have done something similar but in haiku form!

    This was fun :)

I love it when you leave a Reply
