Pantoum: A long time ago, in the once upon a time time

A very long time ago,
the girl was young and slim.
Her life was in full flow,
her cup filled to the brim.

That girl was lithe and slim,
completely fancy free,
her cup filled to the brim
but lovers? No. Not she.

She was fancy free
and had no special boy.
Commitment? No, not she,
her life filled up with joy.

She had no special boy.
Her days were full of fun
till fun began to cloy
when she settled on just one.

Her life though full of fun
when the girl met her ideal,
her salad days were done:
life’s banana peel.

When she met her real deal,
her single life was done -
he had such appeal -
willingly forgone.

Her single days were gone,
her heart now all aglow
life happily redrawn
a very long time ago.

Sam Peralta at the poet’s pub wanted a pantoum.  I have written several, and after a very trying week, I am not inclined to write another at speed, so the above is my first, written in the very early days of my poeming.

    Single days come and go
The heart is not always aglow
    But whether alone or with
Happiness is maybe just a myth!!!
    Hahahaha

  5. Oh, life is sort of so much easier when one is unattached…sure in the beginning it is all flowery and happy but that soon wears off and then…well hmm maybe it’s just me! ;) No I’m happy but I love the memory of being totally fancy free…so much more time for thinking and creativity. :)

  6. You have always had a knack for these. I admire that in you.
